As one of Tau Beta Pi's large traditional social events, the Pancake Breakfast is an ideal time for officers and candidates to get to know each other and to interact at an event other than the candidate meetings.

Project Description

Since this is one of two mandatory events, a large number of candidates showed up. At this event, both officers and candidates prepared the pancakes and then socialized while eating them.

Event Preparation

Officer Robert Hennessey volunteered his co-op's (Casa Zimbabwe 2422 Ridge Road) kitchen and dining room, which allowed for a spacious area for the candidates and officers to mingle and eat. The event was publicized in the weekly emails and was mentioned at CM #3. Several officers and candidates met an hour before the breakfast in order to clean up the kitchen and dining area at the co-op because there was a party there the night before. There was confusion as to who was purchasing the food. The morning before the breakfast, Amar Patel went to Safeway and bought a small supply of pancake mix, 2 bags of apples, 2 gallons of milk, butter, and cups to hold over till Costco opened. Then Amar went to Costco and bought a large bag of pancake mix, syrup, 1 bag of chocolate chips, 3 bunches of bananas, 2 orange juices, 2 applies juices, and 2 more gallons of milk. We made chocolate chip, banana, apple, and regular pancakes. As people finished eating by 12, everyone helped to clean up.

Problems Encountered

There was a miscommunication about who was going to buy the food for the breakfast.

Improvements Suggested

None.

Enjoyment

Everyone had fun and there was plenty of pancakes to go around. Since this was one of the last big social events of the semester, many candidates spent time trying to get officer challenges and answers to questions in the candidate packet.
