| Having a members only meeting helps keep the members who are not officers involved with the club. It is a good time to remind them of what the national organization has to offer (scholarships, fellowships, job board) and what events our own chapter is planning. | ||
Project Description
The Member Meeting and Ice Cream Social consists of two main parts: ice cream and informational material. Members came and served themselves ice cream and mingled with each other until the informational part of the meeting started. Then, Chapter President B. Love presented information to members on available scholarships, fellowships, the job board on the national site as well as information about MonsterTRAK. Upcoming events were also discussed and members were reminded that they are welcome at all events.
Event Preparation
Chapter President B. Love reserved the room (120AB Bechtel) at the beginning of the semester. When the date approached, members were notified by the Publicity Committee in the weekly e-mail sent out. A second e-mail by B. Love strongly encouraging members to stay involved was also sent. The day before the event, B. Love went to Costco to purchase 3 gallons of ice cream, chocolate syrup and made sure there were enough bowls and spoons the office inventory for the event. B. Love also went to the national website to review available programs and opportunities for members. Shortly before the event start time, B. Love picked up the room key and laid out the ice cream and fixings on a table in the room.
Problems Encountered
none
Improvements Suggested
Getting increased member involvement has been an ongoing task for our chapter. Moving this meeting to even earlier in the semester should strongly be considered. That way, members can be reminded about TBP before they get too caught up in their course work or other clubs. On another note, consider having some beverage like milk to go with the ice cream.
Enjoyment
People enjoyed the event and it is worth doing as a simple, early in the semester event for the members to get them back into the TBP mix.
