Project Description

The historian’s main duty is record the candidate semester so everyone who looks at the pictures can get a warm sense of nostalgia and remember the days of fun they had participating in the myriad of activities that surround the candidate semester.

Event Preparation

Preparation really only includes going to events with a camera ready. Most of the pictures were taken using the TBP digital camera. I suggest using a digital camera so there is a quick turn around time on getting picture up on the web as well as the obvious cost benefit in not having film to buy and develop. Sarah Giddings and Andy Pascall were the two people who took most of the pictures in the semester, although, when they could not make it to an event, challenges were also offered to candidates to take pictures. Jennifer Hwang also provided her digital camera for use when both Sarah and Andy attended an event so there could be double the picture taking.

Problems Encountered

One set of pictures was corrupted due to a memory card error. Unfortunately, there isn’t really a solution to this problem and is one of the limitations of using a digital camera. Also, it is very important to store all pictures in multiple locations, just in case something happens to one set, i.e. a computer crash.

Improvements Suggested

It is important for each historian to have their own digital camera. This cuts down on the hassle of having to pass the camera back and forth throughout the semester. Also, there should be at least one historian at every event; however, since this is rarely possible given the number of events, candidate picture taking challenges are an acceptable substitute.

Enjoyment

While the picture taking is a requirement of the historian position, it is also very enjoyable. Most people who wish to be a historian are already avid photographer.
