Bent Polishing is a required tradition for candidates to help clean the Bent. By polishing the Bent, candidates learn what it is and make it shiny and noticeable to passersby.

Project Description

Bent Polishing is a required event for candidates. The Bent is located on campus between the Bechtel Engineering Center and McLaughlin Hall. Candidates stopped by for fifteen minutes during the hours of 9am to 3pm. Officers were present during all hours to instruct candidates about polishing and to answer any questions the candidates may have had. This was the second of two scheduled Bent Polishing sessions for this candidate semester.

Event Preparation

VPs Amar Patel and Peter Masatani selected the date for Bent Polishing based on convenience of their schedules and on a different date than the fist Bent Polishing. At the officer meeting the week before the event, Peter Masatani passed out a sign up sheet for officers to volunteer to be at the Bent to supervise. An email reminder was sent out the night before the event. Brian Love arrived at 8:55 am to set up the table, chairs and polishing equipment (polish, wax and rags). The equipment/supplies were obtained from 220 Bechtel and set up near the Bent. The event lasted until 3:00 pm when everything was put away.

Problems Encountered

None. The Bent was very clean and shiny and didn’t need polishing. However, I guess it never hurts to polish it some more.

Improvements Suggested

None

Enjoyment

As a symbol of the organization, it is satisfying to see the Bent shiny and clean. Polishing itself is perhaps not a fun activity, but it is worth renewed look of the Bent. As a tradition, the event will be held again.
