Society of Automotive Engineering (Formula SAE)

From The Unofficial Guide to Engineering

What is Formula SAE?

It designs, fabricates, and competes with small formula-style racecars against other colleges from around the world. The FSAE set of rules is in place to test our engineering skills and creativity. During the competition the vehicles are judged in four different categories: static inspection, engineering design, solo performance trials, and high-performance track endurance. The event takes place at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan every second week in May.

Who is Formula SAE for?

Want to learn the practical aspects of engineering through real-life experience? What you bring with you will be added to the total package of knowledge that is held by the team. Others on the team will bolster what you lack in knowledge. In this way, SAE provides an environment for its members to pursue individual interests in a supportive environment of learning. What is the most important is that you can bring a positive, inquisitive and disciplined mind to the task at hand. Effort is a highly prized commodity in this quest for performance.
