Welcome to my humble website. What'll you find here? Maybe something about
me. Maybe some random thoughts I think up. Maybe some cool things I dig up.
Who knows?
This site was made with vim. The graphics were made with gimp 1.2. I'm
serious.

- Next to AOL CDs, facial hair must be the most useless annoyance in the
world. It serves absolutely no purpose aside from making a horrible scratching
noise when you rub your face after being decked by a 300-pound ballerina named
Bertha. (Not that I've ever been hit by a ballerina.) The big problem comes
when trying to remove that sandpaper from my face. Last week, I managed to cut
the left side of my lip. Yes, I cut my lip while shaving. Not the hair-
bearing upper lip, but the tender kissable region that's presumably hairless.
What was a razor doing over there you ask? Beats the beans out of me. I must
have "slipped." But it's a very uncomfortable place to have cut. And on top of
that, it took about an hour for the blood to finally stop drooling out. I gets
better: this morning, I cut the right side of my lip -- same area, opposite
side. Today, I've reached a new low. Next week I expect to cut my left big toe
while shaving. Just wait, it'll happen.

- This took forever. Lake
pictures are finally up.
- 9/6/04
- Looks like it is time for some pictures. Here are some pictures
from a ride in Monterey.
You can see Phill trying to ride down a flight of stairs.
- 8/1/04
- Wow, it's August already. Well I'm about 2 weeks late with this
post but here are pictures
from Sri's second birthday bash. There are some crazy videos too, but I'll
post them later.
- 5/30/04
- Memorial Day weekend was great. Went up to Feather Falls with Dave
and Phill. It was a pretty good hike up to the fall but the trip back
got pretty crazy. Anyway,
pictures are up on the
Pictures page.
I came to an epiphany during the trip. Well, two. First of all, I can't
spell eepiffanee. Second, I realized that most people exist to do things.
I've been doing things to exist. So I either need to keep doing more of
these "things," or I need to find a purpose in life. Either one of those
should keep me busy for a while....
- 2/15/04
- Valentine's Day was cool. Bunch of us single people got together and
celebrated being single...by talking about relationships and eating pizza
and pasta. Pictures are up on the pictures page, mostly of other people
taking pictures. This morning I went to Fremont Older with Mimi to catch
the sunrise. Almost caught it. There are more pictures on pictures page
under "Fremont Older Rides". For now, I'm tired, but must work.
- 2/7/04
- Pictures from the beach house during New Years and from a bike trip
are linked on the pictures page.

- A late follow-up on the poll worker thing: it's boring. No one comes
in to vote for these local elections. It's also a 14-hour day (longer than
my usual work day). But the idea of helping out your community is pretty
nice though, I suppose. I got $100 for working that day. About $30 went to
a toy for Penny Arcade's toy drive and the rest went to Tau Beta Pi.
I went to Phill's dad's beach house for New Years and took some pictures
so I'll put those up some day. Yes, finally there might be pictures on
this site thing. Meanwhile, here are some
lemons.
- 11/02/03
- Dude, it's November already. I'm going to be a poll worker for the
election on Tuesday. It's going to be interesting. But I don't know if I
can handle taking another day off. I guess on Monday I'm going to have
to work longer. Oh well.
Another thing: there's Joe Millionare, Joe Schmoe and now Average Joe.
Why is Joe so lucky?
- 8/15/03
- Mountain Dew now tastes too sweet for me. That's sad because no other
drink in our kitchen provides me with the same amount of caffeinated
goodness as Mountain Dew. Maybe if I put coffee in my MD?
- 8/13/03
- Many people often ask me why I don't update my website. OK, that's
not true: many people yell at me for not updating my website. That's not
true either. Grace yells at me for not updating my website. Steph too. I
usually say it's because I gave up. But that's not entirely true. I've been
trying to find something to rant about. It's not like I have nothing to
be angry about -- Dubya and his United States of Whatevah could certainly
have raised my blood pressure several orders of magnitude. It isn't as
though I'm just holding back all my anger (because that would mean I'm the
subject of a comical web comic produced by my son and that can't be true
because there's no Carl Jr. that I know of). The problem is that whenever
I've tried to write something (and believe me, I've tried), I'll write but
three drops of my rant before I convince myself that there's no reason to
be angry about whatever it is I'm angry about. So I give up. That much is
true. Hmmm, why am I writing this in the "News" section?
Eh, so what's new? I'm still working at Transmeta. Everything's getting
more and more busy now because the latest rev of our chip, the chip
formerly known as Astro, is coming out soon. Busy busy me. Like a bee.
That's right, Efficeon is actually making it out the door. Well, it better.
There is a lot at stake. The day before we unveiled our product's badass
name, we had a little company unveiling at AMC Mercado. They rented out a
theater and our VP of marketing told us about the name. It wasn't really an
unveiling since just about everyone knew the name already. I found out
10 minutes before the presentation when someone in my car blurted it out.
Anyway, we watched Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life. It was aiite, but has some
stuff I'll try to rant and rave (mostly rant) about later.
There. That's a long-overdue post for you. Oh yeah, Frozen Throne is
badass.
- 9/4/02
- Well, it's been about 3 weeks since I took that big fall off my
bike. Since then, things have been really going downhill (no pun
intended). Maybe I just hit my head harder than I thought, but I've
made some very bad decisions lately. Some big ones, some small ones,
but it seems like after everything I do, I seem to regret doing it.
I went on my first bike ride in 3 weeks today and it felt refreshing.
One of the things that has been passing through my mind were my thoughts
right before I fell. I think I could have stayed on my bike. I could
have stayed up. But in the moment before I went down, I just gave up.
And since then, that's all I've been doing: giving up. While I rolled
and slid down the hill, there were probably many times when I could
have stopped myself, but I remember my whole body just going limp and
letting the trail have its way with me. I didn't even try to stop myself.
That's how I've felt in the past few weeks. I didn't go on rides in the
mornings, even after I was mostly healed. I had just given up on biking,
given up on waking up, given up on enjoying the last few weeks of the
summer. It seems like it takes a lot of trouble to do anything, and in
the end, it seems like it wasn't worth the effort. But looking back on
the past three weeks, all the supposed trouble I went through was worth
it. I had just given up on seeing the bright side of everything. And,
well, it seems like I still haven't started trying again. As I pushed
myself up towards Hunter's Point for a moment of reflection, I gave up
just before I got there. Out of breath, I turned around and headed home.

- This site is pretty boring. Just a bunch of energy drink reviews.
Oh well. Here's another one: KMX Energy Drink. It comes in a silver can
and has a big swirlly "O" on the front. So yesterday, I was really tired.
I went on a fun fun trip to Carmel on Sunday and I was pretty tired when
I got back. I guess it carried over onto Monday. Or I had a case of the
Mundays. I bought this drink at Fry's. Wonderful huh? It tastes sort of
like fruit punch with that "energy drink flavour" in it. But it's more
sour, sort of like Sweet Tarts candy. It's also orange-red colored. The
aftertaste is sort of like watermelon candy. This drink tastes really
unique, and I'm having a hard time describing the taste. For taste alone,
it was pretty good. But aside from that, the drink wasn't that great. For
one thing, I got a really bad burning sensation at the back of my mouth,
almost as if I ate something very spicy. It wasn't like the other drinks
where my throat would burn; this one burned higher. As for effect, I did
feel slightly more awake and alert, but only for a few minutes. After
just one hour, I was back to my sleepy old self. So I don't know if it
is really that ineffective or it was because I drank a lot of water after
drinking it to quench the burning. Overall, I won't want to try this
drink again.
- 8/5/02
- OK, so I'm 4 days late with this review, but here goes:
This is for Magic "Energy Kick" drink. It comes in a standard energy
drink-style can. It's all blue and says Energy Kick in big letters on the
front. The interesting thing is that it emphasizes the fact that there is
fructose in there. This might actually make a difference because the drink
was a lot sweeter than other energy drinks. It tastes like candy, like
Japanese candy, not really like anything you'd buy here in a vending
machine at 3am in the lab. The aftertaste is pretty faint, though it's
very tart. The clear or pale yellow drink is very lightly carbonated.
Actually, I think it was just that the bubbles were very very fine, so it
doesn't feel like there's any carbonation, but I could feel the fizziness
in my throat afterwards. As for the effect, I did feel more alert almost
immediately after drinking it. My mind was more clear but my body didn't
feel very stable. The funny thing is that most energy drinks make my hands
shake; this one made my body shaky, but my hands were all right. However,
it did seem harder to control my motions. As I wrote down my notes for the
review, I was writing faster and faster. It's a strange feeling. Also, I
noticed that my heart was beating faster. Another odd thing was that my jaw
felt really sore after drinking it, I'm not sure why. It's never happened
with other drinks. All in all, this Magic drink is among the best tasting
energy drink I've had. (The Sobe drink, where I lost my notes for the review,
tasted pretty good too.) It has a pretty good effect, and I felt good after
drinking it. The effect wore off after about 2 hours, and I was back in my
old, gloomy state.
- 8/1/02
- Warcraft is evil. Warcraft III is three times the evil. I just got
it on Saturday and I've been spending nights being seranaded by some
dude letting me know that my forces are under attack. It's so fun, but
it's evil too. This week, I've been having trouble getting up for work
and at work, I spend at least half the time trying to get my vi windows
to attack the emacs windows. (emacs stands for Evil MACros, by the way.)
Anyway, today, I went to 7-11 and got a can of this Magic "Energy Kick"
drink. It looks kinda scary, but I'm going to try it out. The stuff is
imported from Sweden. On the front, it says "Ginseng Guarana Fructose"
which I'm guessing to mean that it includes those three...potions. I
especially like how it includes fructose. The ingredients say that
there is natural caffiene in it too. Cool. So I'll try it out this
afternoon and post a review soon after.
- 7/28/02
- ARGH! OK, so I might have told some of you that I popped the back
tire on my bike last Monday. So I got a new inner tube that was filled
with Slime so it would repair flats. That was for the back tire. Today,
I was hoping for a really long ride, up to Hunter's Point and then down
Ranch Road, up half of Seven Springs Loop, then back on Hayfield Trail,
to Coyote Ridge Trail and over to Stevens Creek. But nooooooo. I got up
to Hunter's Point and had a thrilling ride down Ranch Road. So while
I'm taking a short rest at the bottom of Ranch, I hear this hissing from
my front tire. ARGH! So I walk up Seven Springs and I'm going to walk
home, but then I decide to inflate my tire and try riding because it's
a bloody long way home. So on the trip home, I pumped up my tires 7
times along the side of the road. Funny thing is that after I got my
flat last week Phill tells me to carry spare inner tubes. Did I listen?
Nooooooo. I'll never pop another tire. Nooooo. Sigh.
- 7/24/02
- Wow, so I'm sure all 2 people who read this know that I work at
Transmeta. And by now you probably also know that we laid off 40% of
our workforce, leaving less than 300 people. So today, we celebrated
the tape-out of our newest chip, Astro. We had a nice big drunken
party, Well, it wasn't that drunken, but it was a party. People went
there to see who was still around. Kinda sad, but everyone was happy.
Anyway, it looks like if this product comes back and we have a smooth
bring-up, I think the company will be ok. I guess this just means
that I need to start doing work; which is probably why they call work
"work".
- 7/16/02
- OK, so I lied. I said I'd update this on Saturday or something,
but no. It's Tuesday night. Anyway, here's my review of one-eighty
energy drink. So it's a can about the size and shape of any other
energy drink. This one, however, tastes a lot like orange soda. There
is a strange aftertaste though, which makes you realize that it isn't
orange soda. But the drink itself is orange and fizzy. It's very fizzy.
After drinking about half the can, my throat felt all tingly, and
after drinking more, it was burning a bit. Not very painful, but I
almost didn't want to drink more. This was a fairly weak drink. I
began feeling more alert almost immediately. I started shaking not long
after, but it wasn't that bad. I had some trouble controlling my
motion (ie. not smooth and graceful like I usually am, of course) and
my eyes were darting around. The effect didn't last long. After a little
over an hour, I started feeling tired again. The reason I got the drink
was because I was tired from my bike ride. Right after drinking the
stuff I felt wide awake, but afterwards, I felt about as tired as I was
before. Overall, this is a tasty energy drink, though not a very strong
one. I don't know if, because it tastes good, I'd drink more for more
effect. It was kind of expensive, but then again, all energy drinks are.
- 7/12/02
- Good lord. It's been two months since my last update. My deepest
apologies for this slacking-ness. Wow, so much has happened. Well, for
one thing, I graduated from UC Berkeley. I can't call myself a student
anymore. And now I work at Transmeta in the product engineering
department. E-mail me at cwang@transmeta.com.
I like to get e-mail. OK, so why the lack of updates? Laziness is one
big reason. And this page is kinda hard to update. I wanted to be able
to archive old updates automatically, but I was too lazy to do it. And
another thing was that I had some Sobe energy drink before my ee121
final back in May. I wrote a review as I sat in the room about 45 minutes
before the exam, but I lost the paper I wrote it on, so I was kinda
mad and didn't update. Great excuse huh? Anyway, to make up for it, I
wanted to get another can and try it again, but 7-11 didn't have any
so I some other stuff. I'll put a review up tonight or tomorrow.
- 5/11/02
- I put up a small list of movies I should see on my thoughts page.
Seeing as I have no thoughts on there, this will be the most thoughtful
thing on that page. OK, back to nachos.
- 5/8/02
- Woo hoo! I finished a presentation today. One more week of school
left, and I have a problem set, paper, project and another problem set.
What the heck? Blargh.
- 5/4/02
- Today, Dave said, "Your G-String's probably off. Your G-String's
always off." He was talking about guitars though.
- 5/3/02
- To Dew, or not to Dew? That is the question. I made it through CS
170 without a second or a third can, but will the evening be as fun and
exciting as CS 170?
- 5/3/02
- You may have heard that I said I would stop drinking Mountain Dew.
Well, I gave in to the cravings. I'm addicted to the stuff. After going
almost two weeks without sipping my fizzy, green friend, I couldn't hold
back any longer. I just drank one can, washing down intense feelings of
guilt. Two more cans lay waiting in my backpack, ready to pounce at my
next moment of weakness. I'm sorry for everyone who I've let down. Old
habits die hard. But the Dew...it makes me feel so good!
- 4/30/02
- Well, it looks like the midterm wasn't so bad. That's the problem,
because I think everyone else thought it wasn't so bad, so the curve is
going to be mad crazy high. Anyway, I had a can of Rock Star energy
drink today. Here's my little review. The stuff comes in a big can, it's
16oz, and it says "double size" so I'm guessing there's another size. I
got this at Safeway and I didn't see the smaller size. The big problem
I had with this stuff was the taste. TERRIBLE stuff. It smells like Red
Bull but unlike Amp, it leaves a cough-syrup aftertaste in your mouth.
That being said, I'll talk about the good aspects of the drink. The
most noticeable trait was that it didn't make me jittery. In fact, I
thought it wasn't working, and maybe it wasn't because I wasn't that
tired today. But 30-40 minutes after I opened the can, I felt a bit
more alert. I'm guessing that's due to the drink. Unlike the other
energy elixirs I've had, there was no noticeable ramp up in alertness
and no terrible tired/depressed feeling afterwards. My guess is that
this stuff, works really slowly. Oh, the most important thing: what
color is it? The side of the can is brown. The top of it (and the
insides, it seems) is sort of copper coloured. It makes the stuff
look a very light brown. But when I poured a bit onto the table, it
is actually green. A very light green, but still green, like faint
Surge. In conclusion, this Rock Star energy drink (intended for Rock
Stars to Atheletes, I think EECS major fits in there) rates high on
the effects scale, but very VERY low on the taste meter.
- 4/29/02
- The worst feeling to ever have it to lack hope. That's how I feel
about my EE121 midterm tomorrow. There's no hope. Even if I do know
all the material fairly well, I don't think I can handle the test. It
is hopeless. And it doesn't help that everyone in that class is so
incredibly bright. Well, I suppose I can only go in there aiming high
and failing miserably. To make matters worse, the pants that I got
paint on during Rebuilding Together still has paint on it. Sigh.
- 4/26/02
- I did Rebuilding Together today. It used to be Christmas in April,
but not anymore apparently. Pulling weeds early in the morning and
painting the bleachers at Berkeley High in the afternoon. I got yellow
paint all over my pants, but the guys said it would "come right out" so
I didn't care. When I got home, I tried to wash the stuff out, but after
the washer it didn't come out. Funny thing is that after putting the
pants through the dryer, it was mostly gone. Our silly dryer doesn't
do a good job of drying our clothes, but it seems to do a good job at
cleaning them. My sister sent me this link yesterday...it's so funny.
- 4/25/02
- Wow, I'm pretty bad at updating this thing. Yesterday, I worked on
possibly the hardest EE121 problem set I've ever worked on since EE120.
Geez. The four problems took almost 20 hours. That and CS162 have been
owning me for the past week or so. Having a midterm in 121 next week
really doesn't help. I need a place to put quotes on this page.
- 4/20/02
- Happy Cal Day.
- 4/18/02
- At around 1:30pm today, I started feeling drowsy again. The Amp
was clearly wearing off. It had me hyper for about an hour and a half
today, which is really weak, considering it claimed to be the same as
5 cans of Mountain Dew. However, I was really hyperactive during that
hour and a half. In conclusion, I'm disappointed. It could be because
I had so much hope for that magical potion, but it turned out to not
be all I hoped for. It looks like I'll need my backup can of Mountain
Dew for my 3:30-5 class today. Sigh.
- 4/18/02
- I'm feeling really tired right now (it's almost noon). My friend
gave me a can of Mountain Dew AMP Energy Drink last week, and right now
seems like a good time to take it. There's a thing on the little Red
Bull-sized can that says "MDX5" which I take to mean 5x the Mountain
Dew. So much Dew in such a little space. It also says "Not Recommended
for Children." The stuff is Mountain Dew colored. It tastes like really
strong Mountain Dew, not quite as sweet, more of a citrus-y feel to it.
There's a little after taste, a bit like Red Bull but it's very faint.
It's about as carbonated as Mountain Dew, maybe a little less. Small
sips of it seem to jolt my senses. We'll see how well this little can
performs at the end of the day.
Old news is now on my thoughts page.
Random thought of the moment
- 4/9/02 22:32
- I think I have the ultimate solution to making the ASUC Senate more
productive. Do what tech companies do: Throw engineers at it. I think that
if we put engineers in all 20 senate seat, it should be able to solve any
problem in its way. I mean, look at what Intel does.
- 4/1/02 9:07
- The best part of waking up is going back to sleep.
- 3/31/02 12:17
- I have random thoughts running through my head all day long. But when I
blank out, where do those thoughts go?
