Petitioning for more units
From Unofficial Guide to Engineering
In general, Telebears only lets you sign up for so many units, but there are times when you want to take more classes than you're stictly allowed because you're in horrible waitlist positions all around, or just want to overload for a semester.
This is the procedure you follow to petition for an increase in the number of units you can take in the telebears system. Please note that it was written from a Mech. Eng. perspective and may not apply to other departments.
1) Go to 308 MacLaughlin to get a yellow general petition form (ask the counter people, but it should be on your left just as you enter the room). Then fill it in. You'll want to petition to "Take XXX units in Fall/Spring XX." Fill in the reasons you want to take more units, your address and all that stuff.
2)Then the form needs to be okayed by your Faculty Advisor, so set up a meeting.
3)It also needs to be okayed by the Dean of Instruction for your department. Your Faculty Advisor will probably hand it over to the appropriate people, but if he doesn't know, I believe the best thing to do is bring the form to the department office and let your departmental admin people get it to the Dean and you can pick it up a few days later.
4)Bring the form with all the signatures back to 308 MacLaughlin and hand it over to your Student Affairs Officer. Don't dump it in a box or something. You'll want to talk to them directly. They can change the number of units you're allowed on the spot at their computers, so make sure they do that before you leave.
That's all that needs to be done. It may take a couple of days, especially if you can't see the appropriate people immediately, so plan ahead.
