What is IEEE?
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is a non-profit, technical professional association of more than 360,000 individual members in approximately 175 countries. Through its members, the IEEE is a leading authority in technical areas ranging from computer engineering, biomedical technology and telecommunications, to electric power, aerospace and consumer electronics, among others.
UC Berkeley hosts one of its many student chapters. Students actively run the IEEE Berkeley student chapter, promoting student exposure to Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in all its forms, providing professional, academic, and social services for its student members and EECS students.
The student chapter provides an active community where students learn, interact, and socialize with one another. Professional, academic, and social events are held each semester: industry infosessions; professional talks and dinners given by Professors and industry; and various student activities such as Ping-pong and Basketball tournaments, and game and food nights.
Who is IEEE for?
IEEE is intended for electrical engineering and computer science students, but is open to everyone. Membership in the national organization is $30 a year for students, and $15 for a half year.
