What is EMBS?
Engineers in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) is a national organization that promotes the advances in the application of engineering sciences and technology in the fields of medicine and biology, welcoming students pursuing professions in bioengineering, biomedical engineering and all other related fields.
How do I join?
Membership is open to students from all majors in hopes of educating the community about the new field of bioengineering, as well as unifying students with the same interest.
Activities
Every semester, EMBS holds several meetings (usually monthly) to discuss current events relevant to the organization, plan activities, and host guest lectures. EMBS holds activities ranging from professional to social. Professional activities include visits to pharmaceutical companies such as Guidant and Genentech or to research facilities such as Lawrence Berkeley National Labs – Livermore and UCSF labs. Social activities cover sports games, karaoke or even bowling outings. Every semester, EMBS also holds a Student-Faculty Mixer which allows students to talk with professors over a nice dinner or casual pizza mixer. Additionally, around tele-Bears scheduling, officers and other members are open to questions regarding classes and professors in order to best decide which classes to take when.
On top of that, EMBS hopes to assists bioengineers in planning their future by providing information on graduate schools, biotech companies and assisting students in finding internships through industry contacts, lab tours and company tours.
