What is XE?
Chi Epsilon (XE) is the national Civil Engineering Honor Society designed to recognize students with outstanding academics and service. Chi Epsilon values scholarship, character, practicality and sociability within its membership and strives to continually raise and attain the highest standards of professional service.
The group serves as a place for students to socialize and serve the campus and community. Students hold review sessions, plant trees and run around San Francisco for photo safaris.
How do I join?
Students who are eligible to join Chi Epsilon are Civil and Environmental Engineering majors in the top fourth of their junior class or the top third of their senior class. Class standing is by credit, not year. One semester of at Berkeley is required before eligibility.
Those who are eligible are contacted each semester around the fourth or fifth week, and must then complete several other requirements over the course of the semester to become full members. Graduating seniors cannot initiate past the fall semester of their senior year.
Activities
Some of XE's services to the community include:
- Review sessions for lower division engineering classes
- Industry Info-sessions
- Tutoring
- Tree planting
