What is BioEHS?
The Bioengineering Honor Society honors undergraduate students from the department of Bioengineering who have maintained excellent scholarship during their time at Berkeley. In addition to upholding high academic standards, all prospective and current members of BioEHS must participate in community service, education and professional activities to benefit themselves and their community. On top of these events, BioEHS also holds social events to allow students to meet and get to know others in their major.
How do I join?
Applications to join BioEHS usually become available starting the 2nd week of school, and are usually due by the 3rd week. At that time, officers will review the applications and send out invitations to join accordingly. In order to become a member, candidates must then fulfill a set of requirements: serve 10 community service hours, attend 3 professional events, 2 general meetings, submit 1 exam (for exam files) and pay $12 in member dues. For returning members, the requirements are a little less: serve 5 community service hours, attend 2 professional event, 1 general meeting, submit 1 exam and pay $8 in member dues. Lastly, seniors who have completed a minimum of 2 semester with BioEHS will receive special honor cords at the end-of-the-year to wear at Commencement showing their academic "honor."
Activities
Professional activities that BioEHS provide range from tele-Bears advising, Graduate School Panels, GRE workshops to Student-Professor dinners and resume workshops. All these services are provided for BioEHS members and allow students to meet other bioengineers outside of the classroom.
