Activities

Projects at BI are driven by students who recognize user's needs and design to enhance the quality of our lives. Here are some current projects:

  • BI Fly

Hate being spammed by dozens of flyers on Sproul? Flyering on campus is inefficient and wasteful. The BI Fly project looks into changing current system of flyering and creating new methods of publicizing.

Project Date: Fall 2004 (still in progress)

  • BI_Tones

The BI_Tones project concerned ways to reduce the hassles and embarrassment of cell phones going off when they shouldn't.

Project Date: Fall 2004 Project Sponsors: Nokia

  • LIPS

The Library Item Protection Squad wants to protect your stuff! Using RFID technology, the LIP Squad wants to enable students to track their items to make sure that laptop-nappers and iPod plunderers don't get away with your stuff!

Project Date: Spring 2004

  • Oakland International Airport Redesign

Discover how Berkeley Innovation transforms spaces and environments into streamlined user services.

Project Date: Summer 2003–Fall 2003

  • Shuttle Tracking Services

Berkeley Innovation is developing an innovative shuttle tracking technology and corresponding location based services in order to provide on-demand access to shuttle information for commuters and fleet managers.

Project Date: Summer 2003 (still in progress) Project Sponsors: NCIIA, ASUC

  • Swords in the Stone

Tent pegs are awkward to use. It's difficult to get them in the ground (often a rock is required to pound them in), they often bend or break, they're frequently lost, and they don't hold well in loose soil.

Project Date: Fall 2004

  • The B.I. Game

This project is an attempt to build team unity in participant groups through a game that is an elaborate twist on the traditional scavenger hunt.

Project Date: Fall 2004 (still in progress) Project Sponsors: ASUC (hopefully)

  • Up And Downs

This project is a social experiment which links external influences and social interactions in elevators-- essentially, we wanted to know how to minimize the awkwardness from the elevator ride.

Project Date: Fall 2004

  • Up Up And Awake

Berkeley Innovation envisions alarms clock of the future to be adaptive to humans, providing the ability to wake humans up when necessary and simultaneously remaining unobtrusive to roommates.

Project Date: Fall 2003–Spring 2004
