What is ASME?
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers is an international organization that caters mostly to professional mechanical engineers. However, UC Berkeley hosts one of its many student chapters. ASME at Berkeley is a student ran group that focuses on getting students exposed to mechanical engineering in all its forms. The group is a community for students to interact and socialize. It hosts several social activities each semester, including dinners with professors and industry. ASME is also an outlet to the professional world holding several info sessions and industry tours. ASME at Berkeley also has an academic side with old exams, and talks by professors regarding their research.
Who is ASME for?
ASME is designed for mechanical engineering students, but is open to everyone. Membership in the national organization is $25 a year for students, and free for 1st year freshmen.
Activities
Some of ASME’s activities include:
- Capture the Flag with water balloons (semesterly)
- Student-Professor Dinner (Fall)
- Crab Feed – All you can eat crab dinner with professionals (Spring)
- Industry tours
- Info sessions
- Professor talks
- Lots of food!
